Welcome to Fort Collins Lifestyles, your weekly insider look at life, real estate, and community across Northern Colorado.
This week in Fort Collins & Northern Colorado:
⛽ Gas Contamination Impacts Local Stations — At least two Fort Collins–area gas stations may have sold unleaded gasoline contaminated with diesel following a fuel transport error at the HF Sinclair terminal. Safeway at Drake & Taft Hill shut down pumps and advised customers to file claims, while reports suggest Costco Timnath may also have been affected.
🏛️ Fort Collins Seats New Mayor & City Council — Emily Francis is officially sworn in as mayor alongside new council members representing Districts 1, 3, and 5. Julie Pignataro was unanimously selected as mayor pro-tem, marking the beginning of a new council term and leadership direction for the city.
⛽ Costco Timnath Fuel Center Expansion Proposed — Costco plans to double its fueling positions from 16 to 32, extend the canopy, and improve traffic flow to reduce long wait times. If approved, construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
🏗️ Work Underway on Mountain Ave’s “Missing Tooth” — Redevelopment has begun at 160 W. Mountain Ave., transforming the long-vacant William S. Hill Building into a mixed-use project with retail, office space, and a full-service restaurant, targeted for completion by the end of 2026.
The Exchange Sees Major Turnover & New Tenants — Tadpoles Boba, Henao Wellness, Thai Street Bowls, and an expanded Yellow Crunch are among the new additions reshaping The Exchange plaza heading into 2026.
🌾 Colorado Farm Show Returns Jan. 27–29 — One of Northern Colorado’s longest-running events highlights agriculture, innovation, and student scholarships at Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley.
🛒 Aldi Expands in Colorado — But Not Fort Collins (Yet) — Aldi announced plans for 50+ new Colorado stores, though Fort Collins was not included. A previously speculated South College site is now confirmed for Natural Grocers.
🐺 Colorado Expands Range Rider Program — CPW hopes to double its range rider program in 2026 to reduce wolf–livestock conflicts, though staffing challenges and funding needs remain a concern after a mixed first year.
🏫 School Enrollment Declines Continue Statewide — Colorado public schools saw a fourth straight year of enrollment losses. Poudre School District alone lost more than 500 students, raising funding and long-term planning challenges.
