Vals (1'254 m ü. M.) liegt im gleichnamigen Tal, einem Seitental des Val Lumnezia. Das Bündner Dorf ist bekannt für sein Mineralwasser aus der St. Petersquelle. Einerseits wird das daraus gewonnene Mineralwasser als «Valser», das mittlerweile im Besitz des Coca-Cola-Konzerns ist, verkauft. Anderer-seits liefert die Quelle den Thermalbädern der Therme Vals auf natürliche Weise 30° C warmes Was-ser. Die Therme besticht durch ihre auffällige Bauweise unter Verwendung von grauem Valser Gneis, entworfen von dem Schweizer Architekten Peter Zumthor.

Die Walser, welche um das 13. Jahrhundert aus dem Oberwallis auswanderten und zahlreiche alpine Hochtäler besiedelten, kamen in dieser Zeit unter anderem auch ins Valsertal. Das Tal stellt heute noch eine Sprachinsel dar, da das nach der Einwanderung vom Walserdeutsch geprägte Vals nicht roma-nischsprachig wie das Val Lumnezia ist.


Vals (1,254 m above sea level) lies in the valley of the same name, a tributary valley of the Val Lumne-zia. This Graubünden village is known for its mineral water from the St. Peter's spring. On the one hand, the mineral water gained from it is sold as "Valser", which meanwhile belongs to the Coca Cola group. On the other hand, it supplies the thermal baths of Vals in a natural way with 30-°C-warm wa-ter. The thermal bath impresses with its striking architecture using gray Vals gneiss and was designed by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor.

The Walser, who emigrated in the 13th century from the Upper Valais and settled in numerous alpine high valleys, came among others also to the Valsertal valley during this time. Even today, the valley remains a language island: the Vals, which due to the immigration is characterized by Walliser German, is not Romansh-speaking like the Val Lumnezia.
