When all Forsakes You. 2 Timothy

What sustains a believer when support disappears and faithful service is met with abandonment? In this message from 2 Timothy 4:16–17, we listen to the apostle Paul as he reflects on standing alone at his first defense—and on discovering that he was never truly alone.
Preaching from a Roman prison near the end of his life, Paul opens his heart to Timothy and shows us the mind of the embattled believer. First, he models a gospel-shaped response to desertion: “May it not be counted against them” (2 Timothy | 4:16). Rather than bitterness or retaliation, Paul responds with forgiving grace, echoing both Stephen and the Lord Jesus Himself (Acts | 7:60; Luke | 23:34). Forgiveness here does not deny pain or abandon discernment, but entrusts justice to God.
Second, Paul turns from human failure to divine faithfulness: “But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me” (2 Timothy | 4:17a). When no one else stood beside him, Christ did. This message highlights the active, sustaining presence of the Lord who empowers His servants to endure, remain faithful, and continue proclaiming the Word.
