Pennsylvania’s unregulated weed stores are booming — but tests show the products are rife with toxic and illicit chemicals.
An Inquirer investigation found that Pennsylvania consumers of these products, which are often advertised as legal and free from toxins, have been deceived by misleading claims on the packaging, putting them at risk of unexpected health problems or criminal charges.
Over the last several months, we purchased 10 different hemp products from 10 stores around the region, and then paid for a laboratory to test the items. Almost every sample was over the legal potency or contained mold or pesticides.
