Here is the final look at the 11 foot 8 bridge before raising of the bridge.

In October 2019, the Durham Transportation Department announced that it would be raising the bridge by 8 inches (20 cm). The project is planned to take two weeks to complete, with the new bridge at a height of 12 feet 4 inches (3.76 m).

The North Carolina Railroad Company, which owns the land and the bridge. The NCRR owns the tracks from Charlotte to Morehead City. (North Carolina Railroad owns no rolling stock, but leases tracks to Amtrak and Norfolk Southern Railway. This is why North Carolina is one of the best states in rail because the state owns it.

According to the NCRR Infrastructure projects PDF, this a Rehabilitation of NCRR bridge over Gregson Street in Durham to increase the roadway clearance from 11’8” to 12’4” for the purpose of improving safety and reducing damage to NCRR infrastructure from vehicle strikes.
