Attrition Milling at Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems

Описание: The Mikro® UMP Attrition Mill is a high-speed cutting mill designed for the fine size reduction of plastics, waxes, and fibrous materials that do not respond well to other forms of impact milling. It is designed to grind heat-sensitive and soft materials without liquid nitrogen or conditioned air. The video describes the features of the mill and the processing of polyethylene (PE) chips. The mill reduces PE chips from 5 mm to 100 mesh. With adjustments, even finer powder can be produced.



The raw material enters the grinding zone from a feeding device through the centrally located feed inlet. Size reduction takes place between the adjustable stator plate and high-speed rotating grinding plate. The particle size is reduced as it passes through the tapered plates, which has a wider gap at the center of the plates where the material is introduced and is closest at the periphery of the plate where material exits.



No additional cooling gas

Finely ground product exits the grinding zone and discharges into the product container. Essentially, the fineness of the product is dictated by the number of teeth on the plates, rotational speed of the rotor, as well as the gap between the plates. The unit uses ambient air and no additional cooling gas in order to keep operating costs low.



The Mikro® UMP Attrition Mill is capable of fine grinding to D90 = 100 µm or finer depending on the material and application. The unit has a variety of feeding options and system configurations while capacity ranges from 5 lb/hr up to 3000 lb/hr. Other key features include energy efficient and economical operation, cantilevered design for easy cleaning, fabricated stainless steel construction, maintenance-free sealed-for-life bearings, and chilled or cryogenic operation. Lab and production models are available from 1 hp to 40 hp.
