Zero Clearance - The new Hitachi C12RSH2 sliding dual compound miter saw is equipped with a compact slide system that reduces the clearance needed when mounting this saw to a workbench. The system works with a fixed rail that allows the saw head to glide independent of the base. The slide system is very solid and makes mounting the saw on a workbench pretty easy. From our measurements, we feel this saw could be mounted on a 26" workbench, leaving room for you to easily adjust the bevel lever in the rear.

The Hitachi C12RSH2 is not an considered upgraded C12RSH, as they are two different saws. They do share a common part number, but in many ways are quite different. While each saw has their good and bad traits like any other tool on the market, we found the new Hitachi saw to be a nice, powerful saw that has a very solid feel. Because of the zero clearance model, the saw was made for a workbench and we feel the bevel lock on the rear hinders some of the clearance one could capture. Hitachi made this saw to bevel to 45 degrees on each side, but does not include any other positive stops. A turret system adding in stops 22.5°, 33.9°, and finally 45° would be a major upgrade.

While many focus on the bevel adjustment and lack of a micro adjustment had on other models, the new saw has a lot of great ergonomic upgrades. The vertical D handle is awesome and a lot more comfortable. This saw lacks a safety switch and we do not feel one is needed! The head of the saw is solidly attached to the rails it slides on. The miter adjustment and detents are very similar to many other saws on the market and work excellent. Dust collection is great and 90 percent of the saw dust is collected. It is hard, but empty the dust bag regularly. We found the bag filling up often because of how well it worked. We were unable to get our dust collection system to connect to the saw because of the size of the adapters were not right. Being a saw made for a workbench, a universal sized dust port would be nice.

If you are into lasers, this saw has a nice single line laser that does well. It can be easily adjusted to mark either side of the blade. While some may complain about the laser line only showing on your work piece when the saw head is up, we feel that it allows the user to line up the cut and double check the cut with the blade before the cut is made. This eliminates the issues of the single line laser being on the wrong side of the blade.

Overall

The new Hitachi saw is really a good saw. We look at a lot of miter saws and each one of them has their small areas where we feel there could be improvement. The table, fences, power, ergonomics and solid slide are huge positives for this saw. With a little practice, one can be efficient at the bevel adjustment.

If you are researching this saw, try to find one in the store and check it out. We feel the saw might not get as much credit as it deserves because of the model number being so close to another Hitachi saw that simply rocks. This is a slightly different design that will work well for many people!
