Smartish is a company based in Austin, TX. They were formerly known as Silk. Smartish celebrates free spirit and self-expression. And that philosophy holds true in the box artwork for their cases and the case names themselves.
Today we’re going to be looking at the Kung Fu Grip slim case and the Wallet Slayer volume 1. But they also offer a more beefy Gripzilla and many other variations including clear cases and cases with artwork.
Smartish makes cases primarily for the iPhone line up, although they do make cases for the Galaxy S series up to the S10, S10 Plus and S10e.
It looks like on their website that they only have card cases available for the Galaxy devices, so keep that in mind.
The Kung Fu Grip is a slim case that is built with super grippy sides, ultra-light and thin materials, and protective air-pocket corners to give you added protection for drops. The King Fu Grip also features slight finger grooves built into the sides that fit your hand nicely and provide additional grip along with the texture. Really, this is probably the grippiest case I have ever held.
The back is smoother than the sides, but it is still slightly textured and does add to the grippiness of the case. There is plenty of lip around the camera cutout to protect your phone’s camera lenses. The buttons are molded into the material of the case and are very click-y. The cutouts provide plenty of room to access the mute rocker or power port.
There is a significant lip around the front of the case, so you don’t have to worry about setting your phone down on its screen. In fact, my only complaint about this case is the fact that the lip around the screen is a bit too much for me. However, with a protective glass screen protector on the front, this is less so.
The Kung Fu Grip is a solid thin and light case that provides a ton of grip. I would compare this case to the Caudabe Sheath. The Sheath is a bit thinner and the design is a bit more refined. The material of the Sheath also seems to be a higher quality, but both cases are very similar in terms of thickness, design and grippyness. You can’t go wrong with either case, but also keep in mind the Kung Fu Grip can found on Amazon for $11.99 while the Caudabe Sheath will set you back twice as much at $25.95.
If you’re okay with a case that is a little thicker or you’re looking for something that will hold a few credit cards plus cash, then you’ll want to check out the Wallet Slayer. The Wallet Slayer holds three cards plus cash. It’s made of the same TPU material used in the Kung Fu Grip.
It has the same the grippy texture and finger grooves around the sides of the case, but the back of the case features a card slot that is accessible from the side of the phone. It will hold more than three cards, but adding more than three cards will cause the card slot to balloon out from the back of the case and it will be noticeable.
The cards are held securely in the card slot and the won’t fall out. It’s super convenient to have your credit or atm card with you in your phone case. If your looking to simplify your everyday carry and eliminate the need to carry a wallet, you should definitely look at this case.
If your looking for a wallet case, the Wallet Slayer is a great option. The version we are reviewing today is Volume 1. But they do have a newer Volume 2 option with a new faux-leather card slot that you can also use as a kick stand. Visually, the Volume 1 is a more appealing design to me. The card slot feels more integrated with the case. It just looks more seamless and smooth.
