Dr. Suinn is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at Colorado State University. Over his lifetime, Dr. Suinn has contributed substantially to the public interest through his major contributions in three areas: ethnic minorities, sport psychology, and community leadership. In recognition of his outstanding leadership, the APA Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs established the Suinn Minority Achievement Award.
He also was the first psychologist appointed team psychologist to a U.S. Olympic team, introducing modern mental performance training to five Olympic teams. Dr. Suinn improved town-gown relationships during his service on the Fort Collins City Council as mayor. Dr. Suinn has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Foundation, American Psychological Association, American Board of Professional Psychology, Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, Association for the Advancement of Psychology, and the Asian American Psychological Association. He has received several awards, including an honorary doctorate of humane letters, the Raymond D. Fowler Award, Lifetime Contribution to Minority Issues Award, and the Lifetime Contribution to the Advancement of Behavior Therapy Award.
