Maui Xaphoon Shelter in Place Lesson Series
Aloha Everyone! Lesson 6 is a simple Blues in F. We are concentrating on another cross-fingered note, Ab (the minor third of the F scale), and as you already know, lip tuning is always necessary! In this blues, you can play the same phrase through all the changes, with just a slight difference for the turn-around. There is another cross-fingered note that you can use for this jam, too: the low Eb (the flat 7th of the F scale). If you remember from Lesson 4, we played Eb by half-holing the right ring finger, but it can also be played by lifting that same right ring finger partially and keeping the baby finger down. Lip tuning is critical, and you can also choose how much you lift the finger. Don’t use E natural in this blues scale, use the Eb for the Blues feeling.
