The way we look at upper and lower body methods of attack or counter-attacking has more to do with your arm and body relative to the attackers. Imagine a zoning system with four quadrants, and the point where the four quadrants converge is the attacker's arm (most easily understood in a straight punch).
Hand Entry number one originates in the lower left quadrant. Hand entry number two originates in the lower right quadrant.
Since you have two hands, there can be a total of 8 possible ways to counter within the four quadrants. In reality, it is just a methodology for describing your position in context with the opponent. It is a way to communicate and build a methodology for understanding most of the possible positions you might find yourself in.
