Identifying the appropriate patient population for an experimental therapy is an essential yet challenging task in clinical research. Dr. Saville discusses issues surrounding subgroup analyses in this setting, including multiplicity and an increased chance of erroneous conclusions. He lays out some general principles to consider when conducting subgroup analyses, and provides Bayesian solutions to properly address heterogeneity in patient response.
