Turkey says it has busted an alleged Mossad-linked spy network in a major counter-espionage operation, detaining two suspects in Istanbul accused of feeding sensitive intelligence to Israel. Turkish intelligence agency MIT claims the suspects shared information about perceived enemies, Palestinians opposed to Israeli policies, and transmitted technical data and photographs of properties, particularly in Gaza, using encrypted communication systems. The covert operation, code-named “MONITUM,” follows years of surveillance and comes amid sharply deteriorating relations between Turkey and Israel over the Gaza war. The arrests also unfold against a backdrop of widening cracks between Israel and its closest ally, the United States, as tensions over Gaza’s future continue to escalate.
