🛑Topic overview:

This is a 3D animation of Extended Reach Drilling.The 3D animation is done in 3D max and rendered using V-Ray render.

It demonstrate a situation where a drill head is drilling horizontally, engineers have developed rotary steerable systems that use special hydraulic “pads” on the side of the drill bit to guide the drill as the drill string rotates.

An emerging trend in ERD is “intelligent” drill pipe. In these systems, signals move up and down the drill string through heavy-duty connections inside each length of drill pipe.

Through the intelligent pipe, drillers can receive information from sensors near the bit and use that information to send signals down the pipe to steer the bit.
