This is a 3day/2night backpacking trip in the Upper Buffalo National River’s, Ponca Wilderness area. I started @ the Compton TH, & took the Sneeds Creek trail down to Granny Henderson’s Cabin & junction with the Centerpoint trail. From there, I took the Centerpoint trail up to the Goat Trail/Big Bluff trail, & camped night 1 just past the end of the Goat Trail. Day 2 I continued down Big Bluff until I reached the Old River Trail. Took the ORT East to Jim Bluff & continued on to where Sneeds Creek drains into the Buffalo National River. Crossing Sneeds Creek, I took the Hemmed-In Hollow trail to the tallest waterfall in between the Appalachians & the Rockies, @ 209ft. Being a Wednesday morning, I spent a few hours here, having it all to myself. After lunch, I continued up the Hemmed-In Hollow trail until I reached the junction with the Bench Trail. Headed East on the Bench Trail around 2 miles, until I reached a spur trail up to Antenna Pine. Follow this spur until you reach the bluff line, & look for a notch not far from the waterfall. There’s a rope to help climb up to the top of the bluff. Plenty of room to camp on top of Antenna Pine, & the views are spectacular! Offering you a different vantage point, looking south down to the Buffalo River, Kyle’s Landing, the Indian Creek drainage & the ridge where the Buffalo River Trail follows. Day 3 I backtracked on the Bench Trail west to the Hemmed-In Hollow trail, & took it back to the Compton TH.
