Composed in 1899 by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, Finlandia remains one of the most iconic and emotionally charged works in the classical repertoire. Originally written as a covert protest against Russian censorship, the piece was part of a patriotic set of symphonic tableaux titled Finland Awakes. Over time, Finlandia became a powerful symbol of national identity and resistance, deeply rooted in the Finnish struggle for independence.

This live performance features Jason Carter, an internationally acclaimed musician who lived in Finland for seven years—an experience that deeply influenced his musical journey. Interpreting this national treasure on a rare and resonant 23-string harp guitar, Jason brings a uniquely personal perspective to the work. The extended range and rich tonal palette of the harp guitar allow for a nuanced and deeply expressive performance that honours both the spirit and the history of Sibelius’s masterpiece.
