Oral history interview of Doug Bierman by Paul Yeager, produced by Cliff Brockman, and edited by Randy Schumacher for the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting on October 27, 2025.
Doug Bierman found his way into broadcasting through his love of electronics. He self-taught himself electronics and opened a repair shop after high school. After a tour of KMEG by a family member, he decided to pursue the business and got his FCC license.
He started his career at KMEG as a broadcast operator in 1981. The next year he moved on to KTIV as a maintenance engineer. In 1985 he moved across the state to Davenport and WOC TV, now KWQC. Starting as studio supervisor, he later became assistant director of engineering, and finally chief engineer until his retirement in 2025.
