PRESS RELEASE: As universities continue to shy away from fostering substantive civil debate on the contentious Israel-Palestine issue, a San Francisco attorney is doing it for them. David Rouda, a trial attorney, playwright and musician, moderated and produced debates at University of California at Berkeley, and most recently at UCLA, between Mosab Hassan Yousef ("Son of Hamas") and pro-Palestinian professors, journalists and student encampment leaders, and is planning future debates at Columbia University and George Washington University among other schools. His goal is that universities follow his lead.

His debate videos are going viral with over 650,000 combined views of the Berkeley debate and a combined viewership of over a million views of his recently posted UCLA debate.

"Dialogue. Understanding. Solutions." is Gr8.Debate's tagline.

Mr. Rouda says his goal in producing the college debates is "to get more substance rather than just slogans. Our young people are starving for real academic discourse, not propaganda, on this complex issue. The social media memes aren't enough. This is what universities are made for, and are supposed to do. But they aren't doing it enough."

He videos the debates so that "the world can see that solutions are possible." Students often tell him that the debates "give them hope for the future."

This week Mr. Rouda's UCLA debate video went viral when, unplanned, he interrupted Mosab Yousef and student encampment leader Aidan Doyle, to call up on stage released Hostage Moran Stella Yanai to address Doyle's views on Israel and Gaza.

Mr. Rouda would like to see these types of debates at colleges across the country.
