Описание: La Conner, Washington, is known for its cute antique ambiance and for the vast lavender and tulip fields nearby, but it also has two cool water features. The Swinomish channel connects Padilla Bay to the North with Skagit Bay to the South and reverses its current with the tide. You can get a ride south on the ebb tide, and North on the flood tide. The Skagit River estuary is also just South of La Conner, with Goat and Ika islands, log boom rafts, bird habitat, and sand bars without mercy. If you venture to Ika island with less that four feet on the La Conner boat landing gauge, you will have less than 6 inches of water, and will likely find yourself aground a half mile out into Skagit bay from Ika. At five feet and above, it's a beautiful, sheltered estuary paddle that can be extended up the Skagit river or South to Craft Island. The Swinomish Channel is separated from the Skagit delta by a mile-long dike, but you can get through the dike a tenth of a mile from the East end through the 15 foot wide "fish hole", a breach that helps spawning salmon that took a wrong turn get back into the Skagit River.
