How PTSD Impacts Your Rights to Gun Ownership

Gun ownership for veterans with mental health issues is a controversial topic, and it's a common point of concern for all Veterans


Many VETS fear that seeking disability for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
will prohibit them from keeping their weapons.

However, it’s unlikely that a veteran diagnosed with PTSD will lose gun rights.

You dont need to be 100% PTSD or MH ....to get 100% TDIU

However A 100% Disability Rating is different with GUN RIGHTS

If you need significant medical/psychological care for your PTSD or MH

the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would give you a 100% disability rating, happens, it may also be likely that you'll lose your weapon.

The criteria for receiving a 100% rating include:

LOOK Persistent danger of hurting self or others
Hallucinations or delusions on a consistent basis (in ability to tell whats real and whats not)
intermittent explosive disorder
A display of "grossly inappropriate" behavior (inability to control emotions)
A possible danger to themselves or others (inability to control Anger)
Memory loss of their name or names of relatives

Under these conditions, a veteran would likely be rated at 100% and be unable to own a gun.
