The tools now exist so that even a complete novice can create an original perfume in any genre to express themselves or their projects. As a consultant to a new start up in 1981 I calculated that the minimum investment for them to set up a small Perfumery company was from GBP.50,000 (at the time over US.$100,000) just in materials. I set the goal a few years later to how can we bring that down to $100 and in 1999 launched The Perfumery Training Kit for 79.95 + $20 shipping. Although that kit is now $249.95 if you order 5-10 grams of each of the materials in the kit and follow a free online course you can still get started for $100 with free shipping and make almost every style of perfume.

And yet so often all clients want to do is to copy something else. Having been in perfumery for well over 50 years. If a friend, a loved one or a neighbor likes a perfume I would never dream to buy a copy version of it, even for myself.

There may be ethical or practical reasons for re-creating a perfume that has been discontinued and now we have the state of the art equipment to do that if required. But please Why Copy when you can create.
