The Heart Transplant Museum based at the Groote Schuur Hospital will now recognise all those who took part in the historic first heart transplant in 1967. To date the museum has largely acknowledged the surgeon, Professor Chris Barnard, who performed the breakthrough surgery. The hospital says it has commissioned curators who must include others like the anesthetist, the nurses, doctors and researchers who were part of the team back then.
