A "short" video of a waste oil burner I made for my shop. It makes use of a Delavan Siphon Air Atomizing Nozzle to mist the oil and allow for a cleaner burn that is easier to start.
I made use of a oil burner pump and stepper motor drive to meter the flow rate of the oil as well as supply the oil at a little bit of pressure to the nozzle; otherwise the oil must be pre-heated for the nozzle to work correctly.
Burn rate is about a gallon per hour at maximum flow, but typically I reduce the flow to about 70% once the stove has warmed up. Smoke is minimal, at best, typically with only a light haze at a initial starting/warm up.
Due to the slower burn rate of waste oil, this makes use of a flame holder to help sustain the flame. Otherwise if running off heating oil or diesel fuel; this isn't necessary. Pre-heating the oil may also get around this issue.
