Labour plans to appoint an “anti-Muslim hostility tsar” as part of a new social cohesion strategy due next week.
A leaked government document says mass immigration and social media hate have weakened community cohesion, while warning that Islamist extremism remains the biggest threat.
The strategy also says anti-Semitism is becoming “normalised” and proposes stronger powers to shut down extremist charities and ban hate preachers.
It adds that new arrivals must integrate and speak English, calling it a “fundamental expectation” for those who want to live in the UK.
The plan also rejects calls for blasphemy laws, amid concerns they could threaten free speech.
