"Ukraine is not dead yet" is a Carpatho-Ukrainian variant of the Ukrainian national anthem, used in Khust during the proclamation of the independence of Carpathian Ukraine. Historical sources record the performance of the anthem during the meeting of the Diet in Khust in February-March 1939; in official events, the first verse of the national song was mainly used.

Carpathian Ukraine (Ukrainian: "Carpathian Ukraine") is a short-term state formation on the territory of Transcarpathia, which received a broad autonomous status after the Munich Agreement of 1938 and tried to declare independence in the spring of 1939. The declaration of independence took place in mid-March 1939, however, against the backdrop of Hungary's rapid military intervention, the actual existence of the new state turned out to be short-lived - the key city of Khust was captured in mid-late March 1939, and control over the region was established within a few days.
The president of the autonomous/independent formation was Augustyn (August) Voloshyn, who tried to enlist the support of external forces, including Germany, but did not get help. The Hungarian government offered the local administration to disarm and peacefully join Hungary; the will of the population and demands for resistance had manifestations of the partisan struggle, which was waged until the spring of 1939.
During the Second World War, the situation in the region changed again: in 1944, German and Hungarian troops were pushed out during the offensive operations of allies and partisans, and in November 1944, a decision was made to reunite Transcarpathian Ukraine with the Ukrainian SSR. As a result of the post-war agreements, the territory became part of the USSR as the Transcarpathian Oblast of the Ukrainian SSR.
