Final Fantasy X Tip:. How To Get The No Encounter ability As Early As Possible!

One of the very useful armour abilities in Final Fantasy X is the 'No Encounters' ability, which prevents your party from getting in any random encounters whilst running around areas where they would normally encounter enemies.  Usually you get this by customizing, and using 30 Purifying Salts to out this ability on a piece of armour. You get 99 Purifying Salts from capturing enough of the drake type of enemies (the armoured, medium size dragon things).

However, that is midway through the capturing process and it is useful to have the ability before that point.  There are two ways to get it.

The earliest point you can easily get No Encounters at is in the Zanarkand ruins.  You can rare-steal Purifying Salts from the Fallen Monk enemies (both types, gun and Flamethrower).  This is usually only a 1 in 8 chance of rare-steal the item, but if you used the 30 Pendulums that you can get from Remiem Temple in the Calm Lands, you can get the Master Thief ability on your armour and all of that characters steals will yield rare-steal items instead!

The enemies do decent damage and the gun ones can inflict Zombie, so it's best to use Dream Powders or Sleeping Powders to put them out if commission first, and steal 2 to 3 items from each monk.  The chances of a successful steal decreases for each individual enemy each time you successfully steal from them. Here is the full strategy:


Craft a Master Thief armour.

1. Battle Fallen Monks; if there are other enemies present, just kill them first.
2. Use a Sleeping Powder or Dream Powder on the monks.
3. Haste your steal/Master Thief character.
4. Escape with the other 2 characters
5. Steal, Steal, Steal!
6. After 3-4 successful steals from each enemy, kill them if flee.
7. Repeat until you have 30 Purifying Salts

As also shown in this video you can get the ability earlier than that as a weapon drop, even though this is usually an armour ability, from defeating the Geosgaeno boss at the Baaj Temple hidden location on the map.  You should save before fighting the boss to get this weapon, as it is unique.
