Описание: You know when you have to wear a jacket in the morning because the temperatures are in the 30’s, then it’s time to forage or harvest the Autumn Olive Berry also known as AOB.
So what is that Autumn Olive Berry? Let me tell you the sweet and the bitter truth of this berry bush!
Let's start with the "sweet" of the berry:
This Asian native bush is packed with so many vitamin, , minerals, nutrients, and amino acids it should be on the top 10 list of super-berry foods! Starting the list, it is packed with vitamins A, C and E, iron, flavanoids and other bio-active compounds. And it taste amazing without any sugar which is amazing! It has a sweet, yet bitter taste. But what makes this berry even more interesting that it is a berry that has essential fatty acids, which is rare. It has 17 times the amount of lycopene compared to a tomato. What does this mean? It means with the high levels of lycopene and antioxidants that AOB might be effective in reducing oxidative stress in diabetes mellitus. Growing this super-food bush it can improve soils by improving the nitrogen in soil. It also helps areas that wash away, it can even be planted between Walnut trees since the chemical it produces, juglone which is toxic to some plants doesn't affect it! amazing berry:
In the video I kept referring to the dreaded Honeysuckle plant - you know the one that people go in groups trying to eliminate it. Unfortunately, the Autumn Olive is related! And it is so invasive that it is on the list of most "Invasive Plant List." It has no problem chocking out any native, including the endangered ones. And many have tried to contain and farm this plant, but with the birds spreading the seeds.
