While figures like Kūkai and Shinran are celebrated as stars of Japanese religion, few have tried to understand En no Ozunu as a human being and a thinker. In this video, I want to talk about En no Ozunu as a person—and about the world of shinbutsu shūgō, the fusion of kami and buddhas, in which he lived.
