This video documents a winter field observation of the White Wagtail (Motacilla alba) recorded in Badin District, Sindh, Pakistan, in January 2026.
The footage captures characteristic ground-foraging behaviour, continuous tail pumping, and alert scanning in a human-modified roadside habitat. Tail wagging in White Wagtails is widely interpreted as an honest signal of vigilance rather than a prey-flushing mechanism, particularly in disturbed environments.
The White Wagtail is a widespread Palearctic passerine and a common winter visitor to Pakistan, occurring across agricultural lands, wetlands, canals, riverbanks, and urban margins. Despite pronounced plumage variation across its range, genetic studies show weak population structure, indicating that visual diversity does not reflect deep evolutionary divergence.
This observation contributes to field-based behavioural documentation of Motacilla alba from southern Pakistan under the BiodiversiGrapher® initiative.
The complete manuscript, along with associated images and field details, will be published on the upcoming BiodiversiGrapher® website.
This record will form part of a curated, species-wise archive of Pakistan’s avifauna.
