Moong Dal Palak Recipe - Dal Palak - Spinach and Green Gram Curry in English

Ingredients
to boil dal
1/2 kg palak (spinach), washed & chopped
1 cup sabut moong (green gram), washed
1 tbsp ginger paste
1-2 chopped tomatoes
1 tsp sandha namak/rock salt
1/2 liter water
optional 1 tsp kasuri methi (dry fenugreek leaves)
for tadka/tempering
4 tbsp desi ghee/clarified butter
1.5 tbsp garlic paste
1 med size chopped onion
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp dhania (coriander) powder
Method
1. Add the spinach, green gram, ginger paste, chopped tomatoes & salt to a pressure cooker. Put in 500 ml water as well. close cooker. keep the heat on high. At the first whistle reduce heat to low & cook for 20 minutes more.
2. Put off heat & allow the pressure to ease down. Prepare the tadka
3. In a pan add desi ghee. Keep the heat on high. When it melts add the chopped onions & stir for 15-20 seconds
4. Add garlic paste. reduce heat to medium & saute for 30-40 seconds
5. Add the garam masala, red chilli powder & dhania powder. saute the masala till it turns light brown. Keep aside
6. Open cooker & mash the contents coarsely with a hand masher.
Keep the heat on high
7. Add the tadka. stir and cook for about 10 minutes till the extra water dries up
8. Serve dal palak with roti, paratha or rice.
