This is the non-360 version of my walk, filmed in a calm, steady style for viewers who enjoy a peaceful, cinematic journey through one of the New Forest’s most beautiful coastal areas.

Join me for a peaceful coastal walk along Calshot Spit, a narrow shingle bank stretching out into the Solent at the edge of the New Forest coastline. With open sea on one side and the sheltered waters of Southampton Water on the other, this unique landscape feels wide, exposed, and beautifully atmospheric.

At the tip of the spit stands Calshot Castle, one of Henry VIII’s coastal defence forts built in 1539 to guard against invasion. Its circular stone walls have watched over centuries of maritime history — from Tudor warships to modern container vessels entering Southampton.

Looking across the water, you may spot views towards Cowes and the Isle of Wight, with constant boat traffic passing through this busy stretch of coastline. The mix of natural shoreline, military history, and active shipping gives Calshot a distinctive character unlike anywhere else in the New Forest.

The shingle underfoot, the sound of wind and waves, and the big coastal skies make this a refreshing and invigorating walk. On clear days, the light reflecting off the Solent creates ever-changing colours across the water, while seabirds ride the breeze overhead.

This is a simple, unhurried coastal walk — ideal for anyone who enjoys open horizons, maritime views, and the meeting point between land and sea.
