Here are 5 points to identify Real ORS vs Fake ORS (According to WHO guidelines):
1. 🌍 WHO-Approved Formula:
The only WHO-approved ORS composition (per 1 liter of clean water) is:
• Glucose (anhydrous) – 13.5 g
• Sodium chloride – 2.6 g
• Potassium chloride – 1.5 g
• Trisodium citrate dihydrate – 2.9 g
Any packet with a different formula is not WHO-recommended.
2. 🧴 Check Packaging & Label:
Real ORS has clear labeling with manufacturer’s name, batch number, expiry date, and WHO or UNICEF endorsement.
Fake ones often have missing or blurred print, spelling errors, or no batch details.
3. 💧 Proper Mixing & Appearance:
When dissolved in 1 liter of clean water, real ORS becomes a clear, colorless solution with a mild salty-sweet taste.
If it looks colored, cloudy, or tastes very sweet or bitter, it’s not genuine.
4. ⚠️ Use Before Expiry & Store Correctly:
WHO recommends storing ORS in a cool, dry place, and using the solution within 24 hours of preparation.
Expired or lumpy powder should never be used.
5. ✅ Buy from Trusted Sources:
Always purchase WHO-recommended ORS sachets from licensed pharmacies or hospitals — avoid unbranded or local unpackaged powders.
