Thekkady is an amazing hill station in Kerala.  Here is a list of 5 best places to visit in Thekkady or top Things to do in Thekkady other than the usual Thekkady boating and Thekkady jeep safari. Thekkady tourist places.

We have decided to avoid the usual Thekkady boating and the Jeep Safari this time, when we planned our trip to thekkady. what else there in Thekkady? We got few answers from google and few options from our wildernest resort staffs. Out of the places they suggested, we picked few which we heard earlier.

Thekkady nature walk/ Thekkady Trekking, chellarkovil viewpoint, Ramakkalmedu, Anchuruli tunnel and Ayyappan kovil hanging bridge were the places we opted. Wildernest resort was a calm and quite one and right in Kumily town but near to the forest as well. First day we reached there in the afternoon, got ready for sight seeing, First option was Chellarkovil viewpoint as it is just 16km away from the wildernest resort. We reached Chellarkovil just before the sunset and enjoyed the beautiful view from the Chellarkovil viewpoint. We got late and that was the only place we covered in day1 at Thekkady.
Day2 Thekkady , first plan was the nature walk thekkady, it is a 3 hour long guided trekking programme through the deep forests of Periyar tiger reserve. It was an amazing one, and that was the highlight of our trip. I have done a separate video of that and the link is given in the beginning of this description. Kids below 12 year are not allowed, so I went alone for the trekking, family stayed back at the resort. Thekkady nature walk can be booked at the same place where we book thekkady boating (online booking also available in periyartigerreserve.org). We sighted bisons, sounder (group of wild boar), giant squirrels and many birds.

After the Thekkady nature walk, I returned to the wildernest resort Kumily and we went to Ramakkalmedu which is some 40km away from Kumily. It is a scenic place, we had some coffee in that cold climate amd enjoyed the view in the background of big "Kuravan and Kurathi" statue, that concludes our second day in Kumily, Thekkady.

Next day morning we checked out from wildernest resort, plan was to visit Anchuruli tunnel and Ayyappancoil hanging bridge on the way back to Kochi. First we went to Anchuruli tunnel which is 30km away from Kumily. Anchuruli tunnel is 5.5km long and 24 feet wide big tunnel bringing water from Irattayar to Anchuruli. We enjoyed the beauty of water from Idukki Dam and the big tunnel, then we started to Ayyappan kovil.

Ayyappankovil pronounced as Ayyappancoil as well, is a historic place where the old Ayyappa temple situated right in the middle of the water. There are boats available to roam around in the river and we can go to the ayyappancoil as well. View from the hanging bridge is very nice.

We took the route through vagamon back to Kochi, it was an amazing ride through the misty vagamon hills. That was a nice climax to our 3 day 2 nights trip to Thekkady.
