Other Forms of ART

Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT): This involves transferring both the sperm and eggs into the fallopian tubes, allowing fertilization to occur naturally within the body.

Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT): Similar to GIFT, but the fertilization happens in a lab, and the resulting zygote (a fertilized egg) is then transferred to the fallopian tube.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): A highly specialized form of IVF where a single, healthy sperm is injected directly into an egg. This technique is often used in cases of severe male infertility.

Success, Cost, and Ethical Considerations
ART, particularly IVF, has revolutionized fertility treatment, but it's not without its challenges. The success rates of IVF vary significantly based on a number of factors, most notably the age of the woman, but a single cycle in a woman under 35 can have a live birth rate of around 40%. The process is also very expensive and emotionally demanding.

Ethical concerns related to ART include the fate of unused embryos, the use of donor gametes, and the potential for a "designer baby" market. These issues require careful consideration and are subjects of ongoing debate within the medical, scientific, and legal communities.
