सोचिए कि किसी को रोज़ ये बताना पड़ जाए कि आप ज़िंदा हो या मर गए? मर गए? अगर किसी समाज कि ये हालत हो जाए तो सोचिए उस समाज के लोगों की हालत क्या होगी? और ये कोई सिर्फ़ फ़िलॉसफ़ी का सवाल नहीं है। एक ऐसा ऐप है मोबाइल में जिसकी ख़बर दुनिया में फैली हुई है क्योंकि वो ज़बरदस्त तरीक़े से फैलता जा रहा है ऐप। चीन में तो नंबर वन पर पहुंच गया है। और ऐप का नाम है ‘आर यू डेड?’ समझ रहे हो आप? ऐप का नाम ही ये है कि मर गए क्या? चीन का ऐप है। चीनी भाषा में नाम है ‘सिलेमा’, इसका अंग्रेज़ी में मतलब होता है ‘आर यू डेड?’, हालांकि अब वैसे नाम बदल दिया गया है लेकिन पहले यही नाम था, मर गए क्या? बाद में नाम बदलकर ‘डेमुमु’ कर दिया गया क्योंकि पुराना नाम बहुत डरावना लगता था, लेकिन लोग इसको अब भी उसी नाम से जानते हैं। तो ये है क्या ऐप? ये असल में एक साधारण-सा टूल है, जो उन लोगों के लिए बनाया गया है जो अकेले रहते हैं। इसका काम ये है कि इस्तेमाल करने वालों को हर दो दिन में एक बटन दबाकर बताना पड़ता है कि वो ज़िंदा हैं। अगर वो दो दिन लगातार ये नहीं करते, तो ऐप खुद-ब-खुद उनके इमरजेंसी कॉन्टैक्ट को ईमेल भेज देता है या संदेश भेज देता है शायद कुछ गड़बड़ है, जाकर चेक करो। ऐप में बस एक बड़ा सा हरा बटन होता है, जिसे दबाना पड़ता है। पहली बार इस्तेमाल करते समय अपना नाम और इमरजेंसी ईमेल डालो या इमरजेंसी में किसको संपर्क करना है उसकी डीटेल डाल दो, बस हो गया। कोई ट्रैकिंग नहीं होती, कोई जटिल चीज़ नहीं है इसमें। ये मई 2025 में लॉन्च हुआ था चीन में, लेकिन जनवरी में अचानक वायरल हो गया और अब चीन में सबसे ज़्यादा डाउनलोड होने वाला पेड ऐप बन गया है। जी, ये अब पेड ऐप है, मतलब इसके लोग पैसे भी दे रहे हैं। और अब ये दूसरे देशों, जैसे अमेरिका, सिंगापुर, स्पेन वगैरह में भी टॉप पर पहुंच गया है। तो सवाल ये कि ऐसा ऐप बना ही क्यों? और क्यों इतने लोग इसको बताए जा रहे हैं कि वो मरे नहीं हैं, ज़िंदा हैं?

The very name of the app is "Are you dead?" It's a Chinese app. The Chinese name is "Silema," which means "Are you dead?" Although the name has now been changed, it used to be the same, "Are you dead?" Later, it was changed to "Demumu" because the old name sounded too scary, but people still know it by that name. So, what is this app? It's actually a simple tool designed for people who live alone. Its function is that users must press a button every two days to confirm they're alive. If they don't do this for two consecutive days, the app automatically sends an email or message to their emergency contact, warning them something's wrong, so they should check. The app simply has a large green button that needs to be pressed. When using it for the first time, simply enter your name and emergency email address or the details of who you want to contact in case of an emergency, and that's it. There's no tracking, nothing complicated. It was launched in China in May 2025, but suddenly went viral in January and has now become the most downloaded paid app in China. Yes, it's now a paid app, meaning people are paying for it. And now it's even reached the top spot in other countries, like the US, Singapore, Spain, and so on. So the question is: why was such an app created? And why are so many people telling it that they're not dead, but alive?
