A look at this fundamental kata of the Shōrin-ryū Karate styles and an integral part of the Wado Ryu Karate style. Ohtsuka O'sensei said Naihanchi (ナイハンチ) was his favourite kata, and you could spend a lifetime practicing it and understanding it.
A wonderfully complete but short kata, it is the gateway to Seishan and Jion kata, and contains a complete fighting style within its powerful movements.
Here Sensei Roger Vickerman 6th Dan Renshi, looks at the kata and some of the hidden gems within. A very detailed look at the core of this kata from the correct Naihanchi dachi (stance) to the classic Okinawan slipping Uke techniques.
