A powerful bomb cyclone has hit the northern United States triggering extreme winter weather across the Midwest and the East Coast. Blizzard conditions freezing temperatures strong winds and heavy snowfall have disrupted daily life and travel during the busy holiday season.

Reports suggest that nearly 27000 electricity customers were left without power with Michigan being the worst affected. Air travel also faced major disruption as more than 9000 flights were delayed and hundreds were cancelled across the United States.
