Country Liberal Party candidate Tracey Hayes has refused to apologise for a campaign ad targeting Chief Minister Michael Gunner after she was accused of making elitist comments about his employment history.
“This is sanctimonious nonsense playing out by the Labor Party and my opponents seeking to capitalise on what is cheap, political nonsense ,” Ms Hayes said.
The ad listed Ms Hayes' business experience, including her time as the head of NT Cattlemen’s Association, and contrasted it with Mr Gunner who stacked shelves at Big W during university.
The CLP candidate rejected accusations of elitism by the Shoppers Union, saying she was not “mocking people who work in very important roles”.
The Chief Minister said he was not offended by the ad and refused to comment on what jobs he worked before entering politics.
