Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar that exhibits wonderful play of color due to microscopic gaps in its crystalline structure. This is called labradorescence and it is exclusive to plagioclase feldspars. The process is actually due to something called exsolution which occurred when orthoclase feldspar was removed from the plagioclase structure. It's all fascinating and what not, but the play of color is so nice!
