Deauville Sidecar Royale - Calvados goes for a ride

Описание: Is there any way to improve the Sidecar? Not likely, beyond trying different expressions of cognac and orange liqueurs. There are however a few excellent riffs. This fruit-forward riff based on Calvados is one of the best. In the Deaville Sidecar Royale, we swap out a portion of Cognac for Calvados.

Calvados is apple brandy distilled in the region of Normandy in northern France. Similar to Champagne if apple brandy is not from Normandy it can’t be branded as Calvados. In the US you will see references to Applejack. This is an apple based brandy but generally lighter in flavor being blended with neutral grain spirits,

In this riff, the cognac is the passenger as the Calvados revs the throttle and takes you for a spin through apple orchards. More depth is added to the flavors, with a touch more woodiness and fruitiness bearing down, but is still recognizable as a Sidecar.

As you watch this video you’re going to hear stomping noises. That’s what happens when above your basement speakeasy bar a family member is “modeling” a new pair of boots. To add to the medley I forgot to flip the lens to manual focus so you now get to hear what an auto-focus lens sounds like when the microphone is mounted above it :-)

INGREDIENTS

1 oz Calvados
3/4 oz Cognac
1 oz Cointreau
3/4 oz Lemon Juice

GARNISH

Orange twist or dried orange, or apple

METHOD

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a coupe glass.Garnish with your choice.
