Social Security: What Are Our Options?

Current projections have the program's trust fund reserves being depleted around 2033. So what are our options?

In this video, we look at the major choices being discussed:

• Raise the payroll tax
• Change the taxable wage cap
• Raise the retirement age
• Change the benefits
• Or combine several changes together

Each option could make a difference.

But every option also comes with a cost.

Who pays? Who is affected? And can one change really be enough?

I'm not here to tell you which option you should support. I'm here to explain the choices so you can understand what we're actually talking about and decide for yourself.

This is part of my Social Security series, where we started by asking why Social Security was created, how it became the system we know today, why it needs to change, and whether the promise itself is worth saving.
