Slipper Orchids Update #2 - Mottled-leaf Paphiopedilums

A couple of months ago I made an update focusing on these orchids and saying the leaf tips just brown up and get damaged, you can watch it here    • Paphiopedilum Orchids update  

I suspected that the damage was produced by the setup I had my orchids in. I had my experience, intuition and what I was seeing with all of my collection taken into account, thus I thought the core problem could be the medium.

I switched my Paphs into terrestrial mix and over the past 2 months I did not experience any more issues. I did leave a Maudiae in semi hydroponics and the problems continued only with him. Very fun coincidence :P

Now, I suspect the air pockets were not allowing the roots to grow, hydrate and nourish the orchids properly. If this was a nutrient deficiency, simply supplying more of that nutrient would not have helped, it might have made things worse. What's the point of adding nutrients if the roots cannot pick them up properly? Why don't other Paphs have issues if the nutrient availability is the problem?

In the end my issues seem to be over and the orchids are even starting to grow faster!
