Weeki Wachee is a spring fed riverfront community that is in Hernando County about 60 mins north of Tampa International Airport with easy access via the Suncoast Parkway. Weeki Wachee Gardens is old Florida at it’s core. Isolated off US 19 and SR 50 it seems miles aways and years ago from modern life. Weeki Wachee River which is a natural spring fed river by a multitude of natural springs in the area, the biggest of which is Weeki Wachee Springs. The head spring is Weeki Wachee State Park, a former famous tourist attraction that is “City of the Mermaids” which still features mermaid shows today, Buccaneer Pay water park with slides into the springs, and nature boat rides down the river. The Weeki Wachee River is a state park to it’s terminus at the Mud River which flows into the Gulf of Mexico at Bayport. The biggest draw to this area is the amazing boating, fishing, scalloping, diving/snorkeling, manatee interactions, and other outdoor sports.
