Pakistan’s map has remained largely unchanged since 1970 but the debate over new provinces and administrative units keeps coming back.

Should Pakistan have more provinces? Could Karachi become a separate province or administrative unit? What about South Punjab, Hazara, Bahawalpur and other demands?

In this documentary, Zaviya breaks down the debate from both sides from administrative challenges and population size to political power, local government, provincial identity, the NFC Award and the cost of creating new administrative structures.

The real question is not simply whether Pakistan should be divided into more provinces. The bigger question is: will changing the map actually improve the lives of ordinary people?

Watch till the end as we explore 7 difficult questions surrounding Pakistan’s future administrative structure.

What do you think: Does Pakistan need new provinces, or stronger local governments?
