Trump Reclassifies Marijuana: Cannabis Shifted to Schedule III, Not Legalised

Описание: U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order reclassifying marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III under federal drug laws, marking the most significant shift in U.S. cannabis policy in decades. While the move stops short of legalizing marijuana nationwide, it formally recognizes the substance’s medical value and lowers regulatory barriers that have long restricted research and commercial activity.

By moving cannabis out of the same category as heroin, the administration aims to make medical research easier, reduce tax and banking hurdles for legal cannabis businesses, and expand access to CBD-based treatments, including a pilot program reimbursing Medicare patients. The order also directs the Department of Health and Human Services to study long-term health impacts using real-world evidence.

However, recreational marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, and law enforcement practices will not change.
