The invention of the internet began in the 1960s as a project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Known as ARPANET, it was designed to allow researchers to share information across different computers. By 1969, ARPANET connected four universities and began evolving as a way to transmit data over long distances.
In the 1970s, computer scientists developed key protocols, such as TCP/IP, which allowed different networks to connect, creating the foundation for the modern internet.
The internet, as we know it, expanded in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1991, British scientist Tim Berners-Lee introduced the World Wide Web, a system that made the internet accessible to the public with websites, hyperlinks, and browsers.
The internet quickly transformed into a global communication tool, revolutionizing everything from business and education to social interaction and entertainment, connecting billions of people worldwide.
