Tropical Storm Gezani has killed at least 20 people and injured 19 after slamming into Madagascar’s east coast. The storm made landfall near the port city of Toamasina, triggering flooding, collapsed homes, fallen power lines and widespread outages. More than 1,300 people were moved to safety as authorities shut schools and opened emergency shelters. President Colonel Michael Randrianirina visited affected areas as military teams cleared debris. The storm has since weakened but floodwaters and damage remain.
