Bonaire Dive Highlights - Just The Good Stuff - March 2025

Описание: We’re back with another installment of the best sea life we captured on Bonaire in March. There were some very interesting first time captures lead by a peanut worm spawning. We also saw several types of jellies including a cigar comb, flattened helmet and a spotted comb. There were a few we didn’t recognize as well, so feel free to write us a comment if you recognize anything.

As far as behaviors go, we found ourselves surrounded by hundreds of needlefish in the shallows, several flounders join a flame box crab while hunting, a yellow goatfish turn red while getting cleaned and a spot-winged comb jelly unfurl its wings. We also discovered sooo many underground tunnels after a spotted eagle ray dug out a holed on a sandy slope.

The uncommon animal list this month contains a number on animals we noticed in the water column, like salp, a Venus girdle jelly and a Leptocephalus larva. You’ll have to watch the video for a description of what that might be. There is also a batwing coral crab, juvenile sunshinefish and an orange ball corallimorph. There was just so much to see…again. :-)


UNCOMMON SEA LIFE AND FIRST TIME CAPTURE IDENTIFICATION

We primarily use two sources to validate sea life we don’t recognize. The first is Florent's Guide To TheTropical Reefs which can be found at https://reefguide.org. Its free and has lots of pictures, but is not comprehensive. The second is “The Reef Set: Reef Fish, Reef Creature and Reef Coral (3 Volumes)”. The box set can be found on Amazon; however with all our travels, we also purchased the eBooks (http://fishid.com/store/product-categ...) so we don’t have to carry an extra five pounds of paper in our luggage. :-) We also reference other sources from time to time as well.
