August 14, 1945: Waikiki erupts in joyful celebration as the first news of the surrender of Japan comes over the radio. Shot by my dad, and presented here as a heartfelt tribute to his generation.

This film is seen here on youtube as I intended it to be viewed. It has 5.5 MILLION VIEWS and counting on vimeo.com — but VIMEO has inexplicably chopped off the top and bottom of the frame to fit some misguided wide-screen idea of theirs. This was not shot as a wide-screen film.
