This is Nitika Thakur starting HP gk series in which we will cover hp geography, art and culture of Himachal Pradesh, administration of hp, ancient medivial and modern history of himachal Pradesh and districts profile of Himachal Pradesh.

The name Sirmaur derived it's name from different sources :

Raja Rasalu founder of of state was from Jaisalmer and one of his ancestors name was sirmaur .
Madan Singh raja the capital was located in place sirmaur and entire state derived it's name from there .
From Sirmauri tal pond .

It was established in 1139 by raja Rasalu (son of salwahan - Jaisalmer )

According to gezettier of SIRMAUR 1934 Raja Ugra(salwahan 2nd) came to Haridwar and sent his son Shobha Rawal (Shubhansh Prakash) to sirmaur and made Rajban in 1195 .

Udit Prakash transferred capital of the state to Kalsi from Rajban.
